A Global Launching Pad | Global Leadership

The Global Leadership Living Learning Community is a launching pad for students to take advantage of the plethora of global opportunities available to Georgia Tech students. Fifty-four percent of Georgia Tech's undergraduate students have a significant experience abroad before they graduate. Nearly every student in the LLC intends to have at least one international experience before graduation, while others will study, work, research, and/or serve abroad multiple times while at Tech through the International Plan. In addition to the Office of International Education’s overseas offerings, Georgia Tech has many ways for you pursue your international interests on campus through our globally-focused academic minors, certificate programs, and research initiatives. Taking advantage of these rich resources, combined with a first-year experience in the Global Leadership Living Learning Community, will prime our students to help achieve the 17 UN Sustainability Goals by 2030!

Study Abroad

Georgia Tech has over 140 study abroad programs in 60 countries. A list of programs and application information is available on the Office of International Education (OIE) website. GT students can study abroad on faculty-led programs with other GT students and faculty, or they can opt to immerse themselves in another culture by going on Exchange to one of GT's partner universities. Study Abroad at GT is very affordable with some programs costing the same or less than a studying and living in Atlanta for the same period.

International Plan

The International Plan (IP) is a challenging and coherent academic program that develops global competence within the context of a student's undergraduate major. It is a degree-long program that integrates international studies and experiences into any participating major at Georgia Tech. Global Research and Internship Program

To meet the needs of a rapidly changing society and global economy, an increasing number of employers are looking for college graduates who are able to work in diverse settings, thus making global internships a crucial element of a student's formal education. Georgia Tech is one of the few U.S. campuses to have staff dedicated to finding international internships and advising students about work abroad. Minor in Global Engineering Leadership

The Global Engineering Leadership minor is offered through the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering but is open to all College of Engineering majors. The objective of this minor is to help create engineer-leaders who have the technical expertise, global awareness, and leadership skills to solve 21st century societal grand challenges.

Minor in International Affairs

The Minor in International Affairs is especially useful for students preparing for graduate school or careers in internationally oriented fields. Completing a minor in international affairs signals to a prospective employer or graduate admissions committee that you have acquired a significant amount of knowledge about international affairs. A minimum of eighteen hours of coursework in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs is required to complete the minor.

School of Modern Languages Minors and Certificates

A minor or a certificate in language is a great way to pursue your language or culture studies beyond the basics. At Georgia Tech, they are available in most of the languages we offer as well as in Linguistics. Students may obtain Minors in Language Studies (Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian or Spanish). Additionally, Minors in East Asian Studies and in Linguistics are available. Students may also consider Certificates in Language (Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, or Spanish) or in Linguistics.

Sam Nunn School Undergraduate Certificates

The Sam Nunn School offers certificates in International Affairs, Asian Affairs, European Affairs, European Union Studies, and Latin American Affairs. A certificate is awarded upon successful completion of a predetermined, twelve-hour cluster of courses approved by the INTA academic advisor or a specific INTA faculty member. Certificates allow students to graduate with a "specialization" in international affairs and regional studies and are only available to degree-seeking students.

Minor in Global Development

This minor prepares students to be catalysts for improving the lives of the world’s vulnerable communities in a sustainable manner. It combines engineering, technology, and design with the social sciences and humanities to solve practical problems in the developing world. Students learn and apply analytical skills and practical problem-solving techniques, gain technical competence, become conscious of variations in local cultures and social conditions, and master the ability to collaborate across disciplines to solve problems in Global Development.
